The school administration formally adopted the new electronics policy today. We have requested a follow-up briefing to ensure the enforcement guidelines remain consistent with our proposal. Thank you for maintaining the pressure required to reach this outcome.

Please click "sign petition" (and add your name and email address) to support and cooperate with Middle School Leadership to establish the following electronics policy:

Cell phones must be turned off and left in the student’s locker or book bag from 8am to 3:10pm, unless specifically authorized by a teacher for in-class educational purposes. Laptops and Ipads should be only for academic use during the school day. Specifically social networking, gaming, youtube, fantasy sports, messaging, etc. and other non-teacher-assigned activities shall be prohibited during the school day including lunch, recess and breaks.

I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the school board to present our proposal for an updated electronics policy. We are currently drafting a summary of the feedback provided in the petition comments to include as supporting evidence for this discussion.

It is addicting and causing girls to start clicks and be mean. My daughter has been depressed because of it

I wholehearted support this policy change. Research shows that phones and other devices not strictly being used for educational purposes undermines social development and is a distraction in the educational setting.

I’m in favor of limiting computer usage. However, I’m torn when it comes to the phones. In case of an emergency such as Stoneman Douglas, it’s important for the students to have access to their cellphones. Of course we hope there is never a situation like this where it would be necessary, but unfortunately in today’s times we do need to take that into consideration.

I agree 110%! I don’t know how the teachers can teach and monitor computer use at the same time. I know that this is been an issue especially in the case of permitting kids to listen to music on their headphones during class. It’s a complete distraction having them constantly change the music station when they should be doing the work or listening to the teacher. If music is to be played, the teacher can play classical music on low for the whole class like they did in Montessori school LOL.

No use of phone at school. In case of an emergency, parents can always call the school or the child can use the school phone
