Petition for a Tuition Refund in the Event of a Strike at U of T

WHEREAS students at the University of Toronto are paying an ever increasing amount of money to study at this university, and WHEREAS the Teaching Assistants at U of T are currently in collective bargaining with the University and asking for poverty-line wages, flexible maternity leave, one-tier health care, smaller tutorial and lab sizes, and a two year contract, and WHEREAS the Teaching Assistants’ union, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3902, has received a 2/3 support in a strike mandate. Be it resolved that in the event of a strike that all undergraduate, part-time and full-time, students be refunded the total amount of their tuition dollars for any lost lecture, tutorial or lab time by U of T. Be it further resolved that the University of Toronto management bargain in good faith with CUPE 3902 Unit 1 (teaching assistants, etc) and reach a contract amenable to both parties so as to avoid a strike situation.
