Bishop McElroy finally backed down and ended the mask mandate in our schools. We refused to let them ignore the damage being done to our kids and we won. Stay vigilant because we have proven that constant pressure is the only way to force these leaders to listen.

Dear Bishop McElroy and fellow Catholic School Leaders,
We appreciate all of the hard work and challenges that went into keeping our schools open during the COVID 19 pandemic. We know you made every effort to put our children's education and health first and as parents and members of our catholic school community we all could not be more grateful. We now ask you once more to take a stance for our San Diego Catholic schools and put our children's health first. We ask that you remove the forced masking of our children in schools. We ask that policy is made by following the science and data which clearly states masking of children provides minimal benefit at prevention of COVID19 but actually does lead to far more severe damage in other health risks including, depression, anxiety, and emotional devlopment. It is especially important to note transmission of the virus amongst kids is so minimal and therefore does nothing justify forced masking. The ability to see, appreciate and communicate through facial expressions is crucial to a child’s social development.
With the drop in COVID19 cases and hospitalizations plummetting we are grateful for the return to normalcy across San Diego and we ask the same be true for our children. Please don't continue to force them to wear masks without any valid solid science or data proving the benefits. Our children deserve better and we ask that you join many other states, counties and leaders across the country that are making decisions that allow families and most importantly the children thrive by letting them return to normal and show their beautiful little faces, mask free.

The momentum behind this movement is growing rapidly and Bishop McElroy can no longer ignore the parents who are tired of these pointless restrictions. It is insulting that we are still fighting for our children to breathe freely while the rest of the world has already moved on. We are forcing their hand and they will have to answer for this stubborn refusal to follow current data.

Please unmask our children. Our children deserve to have FREEDOM to breath the fresh air like everyone else. It should be left to each individual family to decide what is best for their own family. Please do the right thing and allow families Mask Choice.
Our son has mild asthma and I truly believe that forcing him to wear a mask is making his asthma worse. It also takes away from the personal relationships and understanding of children between other children and their teachers. Wearing masks should be a personal and family choice.
As a faithful Catholic mother of six, I fail to see how this following God. Masking children who have no risk of serious disease or death. Where is the bravery to stand up for children in the name of God?
The rate of Covid infection among children is in the hundredths of 1%. In general children do not get COVID-19, and their teachers should be vaccinated. I feel these two facts should lead the diocese to a decision to let the children attend school without masks. Thank you.
Please listen to us. Our children deserve better. At least for mine it’s hard for them to focus with the masks on. Teachers don’t want to keep enforcing them either. We pray that you take this into serious consideration.

SD County has had only 2 pediatric deaths related to Covid 19. Kids are largely asymptomatic and are not a significant driver of the disease. Additionally, all teachers and staff are vaccinated if they want to be. Please do not ask our children to wear a mask. Let them breathe.
