Online school is causing me personally many problems and I know it has been causing others problems too. These problems include: stressed 24/7, mental health of students is declining, midterms are extremely difficult to make up for students who do not adhere to the rules surrounding cheating, we are not learning anything, many people are afraid for their future, the workload is too much, the quality of the instruction is inadequate, the resources given to us do not cover exam material properly, increase in tuition is completely unjustified, and I know other students feel the same way. What I'm hoping to achieve is some sort of compensation for either grades, quality of instruction, or tuition fees. If you feel the same way sign this petition and share it.

Updates

October 16, 2020

I am currently drafting a formal letter to the university administration that synthesizes the specific complaints regarding workload and instructional quality. This document will be delivered to the registrar's office to initiate a review of current tuition policies. Expect an update once there is a formal response to our request for a meeting.

The workload is insane. Not being with classmates or teachers implies I could get stuck for hours on a problem. I literally do nothing but school work. I would like to get a part time job to help me pay my tuition. However, it is impossible considering how much more time I need to invest on school.

The profs are giving exams which don't correlate with provided course material and expect us not to cheat

I want to keep learning, and I know the profs are trying, but it is insane to have hard set rules at a time like this. It has to be equal and reciprocal (an example, taking 20% marks off for late grades for students a day, but then proceeding to give out everything late - this is not just).

The tests are quite unfair and there aren’t even resource compensation for us. We still have to buy our own textbooks which is actually quite shoddy and the tests are made so hard because it takes advantage of the fact that we have all our resources in google. Which defeats the purpose of a test anyways since we should be able to do these tests without the help of google.

All I do is school work, I leave next to no time for myself. And despite all that, I'm still struggling with all my classes because the workload is too much!

I don't have time to do much else apart from school. Dealing with school has definitely affected my mental health and has been hard to juggle along with other personal challenges. I feel that marking should be lighter and there should be more time given to complete tests and assignments given the fact that we are under a lot of pressure as students. It's hard to do well in each class when you have a double workload then what it would normally be if school was in person. The stress we feel as students is real and learning under these conditions isn't benefitial in many ways.
