This petition seeks to allow routers in all residence halls at the University of Arkansas. Although the communal wifi is essential throughout various parts of campus, such as the Union, classrooms, and other common areas, residence halls have a much greater demand for a steadier connection due to the influx of students trying to complete required homework assignments online. This is the first year that routers have not been allowed in some of the largest dorms on campus, and as a result, the internet has crashed multiple times campus wide. As students living on campus, we pay the university a great deal of money to live in residence halls that are incapable of providing sound internet for mandatory assignments for classes. Students grades have already begun to suffer due to the internet crashing in the middle of online assignments that cannot be recovered, and it is not fair to force us to deal with the consequences of poor wireless connection when the easier solution would be to take matters into our own hands and allow private routers on campus, as it has been done in previous years.
