In past few weeks I became responsible for a dependent in the blink of an eye while recovering from covid. I don't doubt any of the kids or families are facing the same. Give them some dignity in this hard time.

How many students need to care for younger siblings? Older grandparents? How many won't have the access needed when the teachers need them to have the access? How many teachers are dealing with a household full of family who need their attention? How are we teachers to offer relevant and rigorous curriculum and expect our student to have the space (mental, emotional, and physical) to step up to the task of completing that work, with care? We have already completed 70% of the school year. Many students were about to start standardized testing as well as AP tests. The remainder of the year was already compromised by this. Let's not add any more unneeded stress to these already overtaxed households.

Some of our families spend hours in line waiting to pick up food at food pantries with limited hours during Zoom classes. Giving all students A’s is showing basic humanity to our students. Empathy *has* to be at the center of all our responses to this pandemic!

Students would be overwhelmed by the undergoing stress from such immense, and large amoutns of work as well as stressing over their mental health, and physical due to the virus. Giving students an A would lessen the stress among students, as well as providing a more fair situation for others unable to participate in classes online.

Yes, giving any grade universally makes the grade itself meaningless, but it is important that our action has the least harm on our students and their futures. This is why the A is important - the motivation of this entire action is to stand in solidarity with our students, reject the inequitable and inadequate model of distance learning the district is rushing us into, and fight for a better education system when we do return.

Signing this PETITTION will bring focus to our current state of affairs in the SFUSD and many public schools around the country. The inequity and uneven distribution of resources, lack of teachers, low salaries, lack of administrative know-how and assistance, missing custodial services, not to mention the need to focus on mental health and economic well-being od resident affect the ability for maximizing educational opportunities. We need HELP!

WHEREAS I agree with every single 'whereas point', pledging to give As is just as invalid as giving any other grade. A "good grade" more reflects the ability to navigate Distance Learning and not accurate assessment of a deserved grade(whatever that means). That said, I have no better solution. Pass/No Pass maybe?
