In order to improve the safety for all pedestrians and cyclists along Union Church Road, we would like to request that sidewalks and bike paths be installed from New High Shoals Road to connect with those along Hog Mountain Road. Over the past eighteen months, there has been one pedestrian fatality as well as two injuries involving pedestrians and cyclists. In conjunction with this, we would like to request a reduction in the speed limit through this area to 35 miles per hour. The speed limit in such close proximity to the high school should not be 50 mph. The traffic in this area goes much faster than the posted limit, and this situation is endangering the lives of many teens who are driving back and forth to the high school each day.
