Yours sincerely, We would like to express my discust at the current road tax system that discriminates against older cars that may have lower co emissions but are not included because of their age only. Why do we pay more for road tax on a car because it is registered before may 2001 than my car that has a bigger engine but is a newer model? I believe that the energy used to produce a new car and wasted scrapping a perfectly good older is not regained in the new greener cars lifetime. The current taxation system for cars is very discriminatory and I am sure is just a stealth tax against older cars. I am also very concerned that bigger cc motorcycles are not fairly road taxed as they do not take up or have the sort of impact or congestion on roads as small cars do but have to pay more to use them than the newer small cars. We pay £70+ pounds a year road tax duty for my motorcycle which has little impact on road wear and road use but small modern cars only pay £25 a year for the same period. Something is very wrong with this system and it needs to be reviewed.

The momentum behind this petition highlights a widespread frustration with the current inequities of the road tax system. It is encouraging to see this many people recognizing the disconnect between arbitrary registration dates and actual environmental impact.

Ridiculous tax which will only make poorer people scrap their cars, or run without taxing them. What a stupid government we have? How can anyone even think this is a clever idea?

The huge jump to band L for some 13 year old cars when slightly older much more polluting cars is ridiculous

I own 2012 Volvo S40 2.0 petrol which is very economical. I do approx 4k miles annually (odometer 25,000) and I pay £230 tax. My neighbour owns a dirty diesel and does 25k miles per year and his mileage (120,000) but only pays £30 annually. How is that a fair tax and who is polluting more.!!
