This is a petition for highlighting the illegality of the Irish Government's enforcement of the Vehicle Registration Tax.
Here is a link to ruling by the EU declaring VRT a form of double taxation and that it is in fact, illegal.
Main Points:
The European Court of Justice has ruled aspects of vehicle registration tax are effectively a form of double taxation.
The court has ruled this is illegal under the EU treaty.
The ruling was welcomed by the European Commission which has called for the abolition of the tax.
The Commission said states should ensure that their VRT systems did not impose a double taxation burden on those importing second hand cars from member states.

As you can see, this ruling is nearly 8 years old and VRT not only is still in place, but has recently been changed meaning that people who cannot afford brand new cars will more then likely have to pay even more then before.
Let us stand as one and not take this lying down
I have been digging through the recent tax policy changes and the burden on families trying to import cars is only getting heavier. The emails I receive from all of you describe the same financial strain that my own family is under because of this unfair system. I am currently compiling these personal stories to bring them directly to the people responsible for these decisions.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only one drowning in these unfair fees. This movement is finally proving that we refuse to accept illegal double taxation on our personal vehicles any longer.

European tax/VAT was already paid when these cars were first registered in the EU, Ireland is supposed to be in the EU and have equal rights to other European countries. Other EU countries do not have to pay tax & VAT again when importing from another EU country, as it was already paid when the car was registered from new. Why does the Irish government force people to pay this, totally ludicrous, screwing the people with double taxation as usual, what a country!!!

Brought a car over from the UK and couldn't believe the cost to register it here. Its double tax, nothing else.
