SAY “NO” TO GAS DRILLING IN UNADILLA We are now sure that gas drilling in Unadilla will be disastrous for all of us in the township. We need our Town Board to prohibit gas drilling and create a road use law. Both of these can be passed by the Board as police-action laws without any zoning laws. The 2 main risks that most Unadillians are concerned about are: • Water Pollution: Drinking well water contaminated by drilling chemicals, methane, and radioactive material, millions of gallons of water per well irreparably poisoned by the drilling process itself; families with toxic wells have to rely on water delivered by the gas companies or bottled water. • Health Hazards: Increase incidents of endocrine disruption, birth defects, & all types of cancer, increased instances of STD’s. We, the undersigned residents and property owners in Unadilla, NY, request that the Unadilla Town Board pass legislation prohibiting hydraulic fracturing for natural gas until such time as it can be proven that such activity does not harm our water, our air, our roads, our health and the rural quality of life that we cherish. Further, we ask a law be enacted to control excessive road use by heavy trucks associated with gas drilling operations in the event that neighboring towns do not also prohibit such drilling.
