The students, faculty and staff of University of La Verne are filing a petition March 22, 2011 in regards to the issue of installing a traffic light at the intersection of C Street and Bonita Avenue. This issue is extremely important to the community of University of La Verne because on a daily basis, students (both undergrad and graduate), faculty and staff are forced to cross at the intersection of C Street and Bonita Avenue unsafely. It directly affects all of those who park above the intersection of C Street and Bonita Avenue who are constantly putting their lives in jeopardy crossing the busy intersection in order to get to the ULV campus. Numerous times a day, students, faculty and staff are almost struck by oncoming traffic trying to get to the University of La Verne campus. This intersection is in desperate need of a stoplight, before someone is killed or hit and seriously injured by oncoming traffic. The risk of a student getting hit increases as students, faculty, and staff try to cross the intersection after night falls. A traffic light would protect all of those crossing the intersection which would in turn decrease the risk of a student, faculty or staff member being hit or killed by oncoming vehicles and it would provide all those who cross a sense of safety, instead of fear and anxiety that many currently feel. Although traffic lights can be expensive, there is no cost you could put on a life that may be saved by a traffic light at this particular intersection.
