The regulators have officially agreed to move forward with the Ultrasound Practitioner fellowship trial. This achievement belongs entirely to the experts who stepped up to prove that our field is ready for this evolution. I am simply stunned by what you all achieved together.

Final supporters
With the evolution of healthcare, the needs to raise patient care and the unnecessary exuberant costs, the establishment of an Ultrasound Practitioner would be beneficial to all parties involved in healthcare. Assessing, vetting and allowing for Expert-level Ultrasound Technologists to work in a midlevel, independent position would provide a high quality live assessment and interpretation of the patients study, alleviate error made from improper orders or interpretations due to limited data and save money with the reduction of repeat examination or incorrect examinations.
We are currently working towards the establishment of a Fellowship program and have been gaining support and momentum from peers and colleagues. Your support would stronger show the desire in numbers, in hopes that regulators will listen to "the people" and, at a minimum, trial out this program.

Yes, I'm highly interested after 21 years of experience doing vascular and general ultrasounds. writing up preliminary reports, and holding 2 bachelors degree, the last one in vascular technology from Oregon State College. Feels highly qualified for it. Why the physicians have to get all the credits for our work and on top of it make money over our shoulders?
I was an Advanced Practice Sonographers (APS) through the SDMS until they recinded it a few years ago. It was supposed to be the next step towards becoming an Ultrasound Practioner (UP). Many years and membership dollars later, it never happened. I hope if this finally happens it will be better managed.
For this to happen Veteran Sonographers need to have a grandfathering path to obtain this level. ARDMS/ CCI need to be "on board" with this so there is a streamlined credentialing process. The Sonographer roll should be redefined as a whole from staff Sonographer to practitioner.
I've met sonographers so skilled they make the diagnosis for doctors all the time and the doctors accept it 90% of the time sonographers are the ones making the diagnosis without calling it what it is this would be great for those who want to move up into the field of radiology
Seeing the quality of some PAs out there and knowing how little of an education and experience they need to get into a PA program, an ultrasound practitioner will be a needed and welcomed addition to the healthcare team.

I've been very fortunate to be formally employed as an Ultrasound Practitioner for the last 10 years, and have been trying to get this formally recognized for the past several years, so that many other sonographers would be able to have this position too! I would love it!
