We need salaries that are competitive with the CSU and California Community College systems! It is hard to attract and retain the best librarians with our current salary scale. The prestige of working for a UC wears off quickly when you see what librarians are paid elsewhere, especially if you are at the lower end of the salary scale attempting to live on your own in California. Reducing librarian turnover due to increased salaries would likely also help the libraries run more efficiently and effectively.
