All workers deserve the right to self-determination and the UC needs to either remove itself from the neoliberal process of adjusting the burden of balancing the budget onto the backs of students and workers or the UC needs to stop existing. As the librarians fight for self determination in the workplace, they can rely on student support and other union support even as the union I work for is on the verge of a state wide strike. -UCSB Chemistry Student and AFSCME 3299 Intern

Librarians make my life, and the lives of the students and faculty i work with better, despite frequently being regarded as 'less than' by prominent faculty. Librarians should get paid in a manner commensurate with their efforts, which are considerable. its TIME to treat librarians with the respect they deserve!

Cost of living is a huge issue affecting librarian retention in the UC system. The prestige and opportunities may be enough to get people here but it isn't enough to keep them if they cannot afford to live. They will go to CSUs, community colleges, and other states. How can we be at our best with this drain of talent leaving to go elsewhere?

UC Librarians do profession-shifting, impactful work, and they deserve to be compensated for all of the ways they shape their campuses.

Our libraries house so much of our country’s history as well as personal history. Please adjust the salaries and compensate the librarians and their staff for the hard work they put forth.

I second what has been said earlier: "We need salaries that are competitive with the CSU and California Community College systems! It is hard to attract and retain the best librarians with our current salary scale. The prestige of working for a UC wears off quickly when you see what librarians are paid elsewhere, especially if you are at the lower end of the salary scale attempting to live on your own in California. Reducing librarian turnover due to increased salaries would likely also help the libraries run more efficiently and effectively."
