A Research ONE University simply can't function without the expertise of properly trained librarians such as we are lucky to have here at UC Davis. They deserve adequate compensation - and more! We can't afford to lose these extremely valuable resources.

Librarians keep this system chugging along, performing myriad forms of uncredited work, and deserve better. California costs are prohibitive. A student on this very day told me how much she learned in a conversation with a Davis librarian. They are pioneering new evolutions of research and teaching, and deserve credit and compensation for commensurate with their role.

I'm a former UC librarian, and can testify that the salaries paid to professional librarians in UC are a significant challenge for recruitment and retention. Librarians should be appropriately compensated for the ambitious work they are doing in support of research and learning.
