Did you know that UCF’s tuition payments include a transportation fee of $1,856 for ALL students? As students, we are paying for UCF’s transportation services whether we utilize them or not. It does not matter if you are a full-time or part-time student, if you live in student housing, off-campus or with a parent, or Florida resident or not. We are all paying the same, but we do not all receive the full service of what we pay for; especially those students that live in off-campus non UCF affiliated housing, who are in fact paying for this and not receiving the full gain of their off-campus shuttle transportation. As you are aware, or may not be aware, the UCF shuttle services only provide routes that are feasible for students that live in any UCF affiliated housing. Therefore, the goal of this petition is to ultimately gain enough signatures that will be used as a tool to persuade the UCF Division of Administration and Finance to extend, or create new routes that can accommodate as many students as possible that live in locations that are not UCF housings.

I want to make a change because I am a UCF student and I noticed a problem that is affecting not only me, but many other students. As students, we should all be able to be accommodated at the best of the schools’ ability. This issue matters. From personal experience, not all students have the means of transportation. Not all students own a vehicle, or have roommates and friends that live close by that they can carpool with. Many students live in far enough distances that walking is out of the question. Some even live in certain locations that the Lynx services never reach anything close to their home. Means of transportation make a huge impact in the development of our education. Not having enough options can lead to stress and having to take other extreme measures to get to campus.

After reading this, I hope you can understand that having a means of transportation is a necessity, not a luxury. Whether you are one of those students that do not live in any UCF affiliated housing, or you are, or whether you are a student or not, consider your rights as a student, consider your friends’ rights as students, consider a classmate’s right as a student, or even consider your students’ rights as a student.
