On Noverber 29, 2011 the LAPD brutalized and arrested photojournalist Tyson Heder on false charges as he attempted to record the demolition of an Occupy LA site. The incident is recorded on video through CBS news. LAPD officers are apparently allowed to abuse citizens in this way, if full view of the entire world, without consequences to the officers. Rather than disciplining and eventually firing the officers, if warranted, the LAPD double downed on their abuse by inventing charges against Tyson Heder that anyone with an internet connection who watches the video can see are false. What we see here is not a problem of a few bad eggs. The LAPD brutalized a journalist and invented charges in order to cover their reckless and violent behavior. If we live in a democracy, the LAPD has to change. The officers have to be disciplined. Internal controls must be in place to make sure citizens are safe from out of control police. We call upon the mayor of LA, the chief of the LAPD and the governor of California to take steps to restore the rule of law and protect the constitution.
