Our congressional representatives effect our lives in more direct ways than any President of the United States can and yet voters get so much more exposure to our potential President than any member of congress. One of the most informative forums for voters to learn about their potential representative is a debate. Debating is a major tool that our representatives use to get bills that affect us passed or blocked.

Texas District 31 has a challenger for our current representative and he is eager to debate. Mike Clark has expressed a desire to debate in a mutually agreeable location and time.

This debate would help inform the voters of the U. S. House of Representatives candidates in District 31. Voters can submit top issues to be debated and our candidates will be able to address those issues in an organized forum.

The momentum behind this call for a public debate confirms how deeply our community values transparency from its elected officials. It is clear that voters expect their representatives to engage in substantive discourse regarding the issues that impact our district.

Would love to hear Mike Clark talk about the issues. Let's get this debate scheduled.

As a retired veteran who lives in Killeen, I believe it's paramount to our democracy that we see the people who want to represent us debate before hand.

I am so glad John Carter has an opponent. The last time he didn't even bother to post any of his qualifications on the League of Women Voters' website, so I couldn't get any objective info about him. (I am new to Texas.)

Any candidate who refuses to participate in an honest debate is not serving or informing his or her constituency as well as possible.

You are not running unopposed this year, Mr. Carter, and simply hiding out won't enhance your reputation as a do-nothing Congressman.

Debates are critical not only for the voters but also for those running so they can formulate their ideas.
