The Wallingford VT town hall's clock has recently been fixed, as we are sure most of the town has noticed due to the loud hourly chimes that go off 24 hours a day. If you are a Wallingford resident, and you are bothered by the chimes at night, please sign this petition. We are asking that the chimes be turned off from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. We are aware of residents who are complaining that the chimes are keeping them and their children up at night. We find it a little oddthat the chimes would ring when most people are trying to sleep, and are a little baffled as to why there are residents that either don't mind being awakened by the chimes or don't respect their neighbors that do. We attest that the historical value of the chimes should not trump the important health benefits of getting a good night's sleep. We have contacted many people in other towns across the country that live near historic clocks and none of their clocks chime 24 hours a day, and they all find it unusual that any town would have chimes that go off 24 hours a day.
