Governor Wichai - during your term in office as Governor of Phuket Province, you have demonstrated your willingness to resolve the many problems that are detrimental to the economy of Phuket, especially when it affects foreign tourists. We ask you to take positive and immediate action against a small but influential group of selfish people who bring shame to all Thai people - the tuk-tuk drivers on our lovely island whose reputation as aggressive, uncouth, greedy, seemingly above the rule of law, is well documented. Now we have yet another incident where an innocent French tourist family has been physically and violently assaulted by a member of of this 'mafia'. For the sake of the tourist sector in Phuket, please ban these tuk-tuks now! We ask you to introduce a public transport system or 'songthaews', with reasonable fares for passengers and drivers who respect both the law and guests who visit our island.

Enough is enough. I was overcharged last week and when I complained the driver started screaming at me in front of my kids. Never coming back to Phuket again.

Been visiting for years and its getting worse every time. They are aggressive and keep ripping people off. Need proper taxis with meters immediately.

Disgusting behavior. No one should be assaulted for asking for a fair price. Fix this mess!

These guys act like they own the roads. So embarrassing for us locals. Please governor do something about it finally.

Total mafia run by thugs. My friend had a terrible experience with them too. Time to modernize the transport and get rid of the crooks.

Ban them all. They give the whole island a bad name.
