Subject: Alumni Support for the Expansion of Triangle Fraternity at the University of Connecticut

Dear University of Connecticut Greek Life Leadership,

We, the undersigned University of Connecticut alumni of Triangle Fraternity, are writing to express our enthusiastic support for the re-establishment of a Triangle chapter at the University of Connecticut. Triangle had a chapter at UConn from 1982 the early 2000s.

Founded in 1907, Triangle is a national social fraternity uniquely dedicated to men in the academic majors of engineering, architecture, and the sciences. Triangle fosters academic excellence, personal development, and professional growth — values that align closely with UConn’s mission of preparing students to become leaders in their fields and engaged citizens.

In 1982, the Connecticut Chapter of Triangle Fraternity was installed at the University of Connecticut. The Chapter rented a house from the university on Storrs Road near where the current Husky Village exists today. Our membership was deeply involved in campus life including helping to reestablish the Interfraternity Council (IFC). Two of our members were elected to the Board of Trustees as a student members. Upon graduation our members became leaders in their industries, including starting successful businesses, typically in STEM related fields and often in engineering. In fact, two of our alumni have been accepted into the UConn School of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Engineers.

Though the chapter folded, the fraternal bonds among UConn Triangle alumni, both those who live in Connecticut and New England, as well as around the country remain as strong as ever. We remain close friends, regularly spend time together, and network with one another for business purposes. Our Connecticut Chapter alumni group has maintained our ties with the national organization and one of us serves as a director on the Triangle Education Foundation.

We have long hoped to reestablish the chapter at UConn so that a new generation of young men can enjoy the same professional and fraternal benefits as we have as Triangle brothers. As a group, we the undersigned alumni, along with our national organization, seek to provide the support needed to help a new group of undergraduates reestablish an active organization on campus.

As alumni, we believe strongly that Triangle will contribute positively to the University of Connecticut’s campus community by:

Promoting Academic Excellence: Triangle chapters consistently emphasize strong scholastic achievement and accountability.

Developing Future Leaders: Triangle provides structured leadership training and opportunities that prepare students for success in their careers and communities.

Strengthening the Greek Life Community: Triangle’s focus on STEM fields offers a distinctive complement to UConn’s existing fraternity and sorority life, broadening representation and engagement opportunities for students.

Our alumni are committed to mentoring, advising, and supporting undergraduates as they build a strong and sustainable chapter.

We are united in our conviction that Triangle Fraternity will enhance the University of Connecticut both academically and socially, while also producing graduates who are well-prepared for leadership in their professions and communities.

Thank you for considering Triangle Fraternity to once again become part of UConn’s Greek community. We look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with the University in ensuring the success of this expansion should we be given the opportunity.
