The residents on and around Townsend Avenue (part of Rt. 337) would like traffic calming measures similar to those instituted in the East Rock and Westville neighborhoods in New Haven. We feel like traffic has become hazardous for pedestrians and that these measures are vital for the safety of residents. These measures would further protect children coming to and from Nathan Hale and St. Bernadette's Schools as well as Fort Wooster Park, the Pardee Seawall, and Fort Hale Park. These measures should include surrounding cross streets to make the neighborhood more livable for everyone.

People treat townsend like a drag strip once they hit the straightaway by the park. My kids bike to hale and it makes me nervous every single day. Slow them down.

Here is a great link to a site that explains/examines different traffic calming measures. http://trafficcalming.fehrandpeers.net/measures/speed-humps/ click on 'speed control' and it will break it down by method.
