TOMS Dress Code Needs to Chill. Don’t Ban Tapered-Ankle Pants

Three Oaks Middle School’s dress code continues to crack down on more and more unnecessary clothing restrictions. Making uniform shopping not only stressful, but makes sitting in class uncomfortable and distracting, defeating the purpose. They most recently banned pants that taper at the ankles. Why? Many students wear such pants and posed no distractions and wore them confidently and comfortably. This takes away a large portion of the uniform bottoms students can wear in school. Some students spend weeks trying to find a pair of pants that are their style and fall into the strict dress code. Consider Cypress Lake Middle School, they still have a uniform to create an equal, productive learning environment however it is nowhere near as constricting. For example, their students can wear jeans everyday of the school week along with patterned and solid polos, while remaining modest. Their school report card reflects how schools can perform outstandingly on testing without excessive uniforms. Please consider how unnecessarily far Three Oaks Middle School has taken their uniform to “help” students.
