Currently, we have one Postgraduate Officer who deals with all areas of the postgraduate community. However, taught and research have differing needs for our SU and it would be more beneficial to have a representative for both.

someone who studies for a postgraduate degree normally has to work to fund themselves, and struggle to potentially fill the role to its full potential, and areas may be missed, by creating two roles we allow a collaborative effort in postgraduate representation and meaning we have the expertise for all areas.

The demand for this can be shown as in the previous two elections we have had both a taught and research student run for the role. Both of these members will become part of the exec team and student council to make sure that if one of them cannot be there due to workload or actual work, a postgraduate representative shall still be there.

This petition shows as a union we want this to happen and will be taken alongside the bye law amendment and role description to student council next week
