Final supporters
We are petitioning that the NYS Department of Health, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, amend their ruling on nursing home visits, requiring the facility to be covid-free (both residents and staff) for 28 days before allowing visitation.
It is extremely challenging to reach the 28 day guideline, and then to continue to maintain it.
We have not seen our loved ones at the nursing homes since March, other than a few, short window visits.
Let us safely visit them outside during the warmer months. And when the weather gets colder, implement a new plan to continue to allow us to see the residents, while wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

My 96 year old Dad survived Battle of Bulge. He WANTS to see his family and said he would rather risk getting this virus and die . He has mentally declined since he has been shut in since March. This is a very devastating way to live out his last days.
Safe visitation for family members is a must. It can be done safely. The 28 day rule is draconian and unattainable as long as Covid is in the community. Please modify this part of the regulations as soon as possible.
Parent with dementia, needs daily fam advocate. Recently even WINDOW visits were removed. Parent on first floor, and negative covid. NO EXCUSE for lack of window visits. Anonymous because potential retaliations. NHs retaliate. All the time. With impunity.
My 90-year-old father is in a NYC nursing home that has hundreds of patients/staff. It could be months before they are Covid-free for 28 days. Even hospitals are allowing visitors. These rules are heartless and unpractical. Please revisit.
There comes a time when the quality of life outweighs overprotectiveness. My father and the rest of the residents’ final years should be more than just a statistic that ‘we kept you safe physically’ but ignored your mental health and happiness.
