Currently, Medicaid does not assist those with disabilities in the obtaining and maintaining of service animals. Since a doctor's prescription is required to get a service animal, this expense should be covered. Our goal is to require medicaid to help with the acquisition of the animal, as well as assist with any required training, and to assist with maintaining the animal with vaccinations for the animal.
My service dog keeps me safe and allows me to live alone. These animals are medical equipment just like a wheelchair or insulin pump. It is wrong to leave us struggling to pay for them.
