This petition is to have the WV state color coded map that determines if a county school system is in school the following week, released on Friday morning. This petition will be sent to Governor Jim Justice, the WV State Superintendent of schools, and the WVDHHR. Currently the map is released on Saturday evenings at 5pm. This causes issues for parents who have to arrange for childcare or days off. Teachers have to create two sets of plans as they do not know if their students will be in person or remote the following week. If the map were released on Friday morning it would relieve anxiety for parents, students and teachers, packets could be prepared in advance for students without technology access and possibly be given out at school if students are present that day, and parents would have ample time to make arrangements for work or childcare coverage. It just makes good educational sense.

Saturday night is way to late for us to scramble for babysitters. Friday mornings would save us so much stress!
How am I supposed to request off work on a weekend? The current system just does not work for working families.
PLEASE fix this. trying to find someone to watch my kids with only a few hours notice is impossible.
Teachers need more time to prep remote work. This is just common sense.
Please consider changing the map release date on Friday, so families can plan for childcare. One day's notice isn't enough.
This would help all staff in school system to better prepare for the next week.
YES! It is unfair to teachers, parents and students not to know sooner!
