  • DVUSD is in the process of implementing a district wide 90 min early release program next year. This early release is for teacher professional learning and is set to occur almost every Wednesday. Teachers deserve paid time for education, but it is not necessary that it occur in the middle of the week while adversely affecting community education, sports and after care. Half days currently occur on Fridays, so the most seamless transition would be to move this Wednesday early release to Friday.

Since all early release days are currently on Fridays, it would be so much easier for working parents to continue friday release. Everyone has already made the arrangements with their employers.

Most parents work a full regular hours work day for on Wednesday and can not incur extra cost of daycare for only 90 mins on a Wednesday. However, a lot of parents have more felxible hours on Fridays which allows them manage care or pick up their children. Wednesday early release is s big inconvenience to most!!!!

1/2 days on Wednesday’s is too hard for working parents. It’s much easier to make accommodations on a Friday. This will also keep absences down as many families use these Fridays for trips and if we stick with Wednesday’s many will extend the trip from Wed or take Fridays too etc...

It is a huge inconvenience for this to happen in the middle of the week. We already have early release 1-2 Fridays a month so the easiest transition would be to have these half days remain on Fridays.

A lot of children come from divorced parents which is the case in our home. Early release Fridays make it so much easier for those families to get to their other parents home for the weekend.

Early release every Wednesday will create difficulties for many families. What will happen with after school sports? Can kids stay at school for free until game time, or will they then need to be brought back to school? Not a great plan.

It would be better to make your in service every other month for a whole day and save taxpayers the money for busing etc on those half days. Maybe you could even use it for teacher salaries. But if you still insist on inefficiency then Fridays would be preferred to help working families. Also, would be better to not disrupt the middle part of the week of education. Mondays and Fridays are always the worst for productivity.

I prefer no half days at all. If implemented, I would choose a Friday over Wednesday.
