The slave market is such a reminder of our painful past. My mother had to have my great grandmother LuEllen Maryann Coleman birthday established. The officials interviewed her and asked her how old she last remembered her age. Her response was I was ten years old when they hung a colored man under the slave market. She said the sky turned black and the animals went wild. They established it was an eclipse. It wasn't until the march a couple weeks ago as I passed the market and realized she must have been with her mother. What an aweful way to remember how old you were. What had this man done so bad that he was made an example of. OMG

In those years that I would visit my mother’s family, I could not stay for long for it would anger me so that a known slave market and offensive water fountain signs still stood. I often asked my relatives why do you stay here? Where people still romanticize genocide.

I’ve spent many summers at my grandma’s house there in Louisville. This market MUST be dismantled. It sends the message that enslaving and treating black people like property was acceptable .

Should've been gone years ago. We don't need any reminders of the pain, sweat and tears our ancestors had to endure there. This is my mother hometown and we still go there for needs.
