We are very concerned at the fact that Consummer demand for electronics products are fueling the violence against Congolese civilians.
We believe that UK mining companies should only source their metals from mines in the DR Congo that are not controlled by rebel groups. We want to ensure that no Congolese civilians have been raped, killed or tortured in order for us to have electronic products such as i-Phones, mobiles, laptops and Blackberries.
We are urging our Government to encourage legislation of the metals trade throughout Africa and particularly in the North Eastern Congo in order to ensure that all of our electronics products are made from Blood Free Metals.
We want our Government to pass a Legislative Bill that will demand greater transparency and accountability from UK mining companies that are buying metals from the DR Congo.
The UK Government would identify products that could contain Blood Metals, approve a list of independent monitoring bodies qualified to audit the Global processing facilities for these metals, and put processes into place to restrict the importation of metals to those that are taken from audited facilities. Importers of these goods would have to certify on their customs declaration that their goods “conflict free metals” based upon this audit system. The audits would determine the mines of origin for manufactured electronics goods, verify the chain of custody and verify information provided by suppliers through investigations in the DRC and other countries.
Help us to lobby our Government today to create legislation that will help put an end to the use of Blood Metals in our electronics products and sign this petition today!

I was looking at my laptop screen earlier and just felt physically sick thinking about the supply chain behind the casing and the circuits inside. It is actually overwhelming how these giant companies expect us to just consume without asking any questions about the human cost in the Congo. I have been spending my nights digging through corporate disclosure reports and honestly the lack of transparency is even worse than I imagined but I am not stopping now.

I really thought this might just disappear into the void but somehow people are actually paying attention now and it feels like the momentum is finally shifting toward something tangible. I spent most of the morning reading through what you all wrote and it is honestly wild to see how many of you care about where these metals come from especially since I was worried nobody would want to talk about it.

its honestly heartbreaking to think my phone might be tied to stuff like this. we need way more transparency from these massive companies.
Stop buying from rebels. It shouldn't be that hard for companies to check their supply chains.
we cant just pretend this isnt happening because its on the other side of the world. greedy corporations need to be held accountable.
