The purpose of this petition is to accumulate enough signatures to place on the Nov 2012 ballot a law that implements term limits for all public officials. The term limits would be for a maximum of 12 years. The election for new public officials would be on a rotating schedule to allow for the new incoming freshman to learn policy and procedure from the senior public officials. If the term limit law should pass, then the current public officials and the newly elected officials would remain in office until elected term is completed. Post term, if the public official has served 12 or more years, the public official may not run again.  If the public official has not served more than 8 years, then the public official may run again until the time quota is met. All persons interested in running for public office must meet all requirements for holding each specific office ie minimum age requirement, residency, citizenship and never been convicted of a felony.

The benefits of having term limits would include reducing the lobbyist interaction persuading public officials to vote a certain way.  Decreasing the need for officials to feel obligated to high contributing donors. It would allow sitting officials to continue to work for the public without being distracted for the 2 years prior a re-election process. It would stop the high cost of the life long governmental pensions that each and every public official receives after retirement or defeat of office. It would also discourage the opposing parties from stalemates due to party line disagreements allowing for a more productive efficient government.
