Please take a moment and sign this petition asking the City to adopt term limits for Canandaigua City Council members and the office of the Mayor. Currently there are no term limits. This allows officials to run for office indefinitely. Sometimes serving for decades. Right now the City Charter is up for review. Let's inform our leadership that we would like more checks and balances in our local government. We would like to note that this petition is not against any current city government member who has served our community. It is meant to look towards the future to encourage new people with new ideas to be involved in their wonderful city.
We are asking for a cap limit of 12 years for an elected position. Thank you very much.

I was looking at the city charter files again and honestly the lack of turnover feels like it is just calcifying the whole process. People keep stopping me at the grocery store to talk about fresh perspectives and honestly that is exactly why this whole thing started in the first place.

I really thought this might just be a small thing I put out into the void but looking at the momentum now feels like walking into a windstorm. It is wild to think that people actually want to shake up the local status quo as much as I did when I started typing this out in my kitchen.

I think all political offices should have term limits. It was once said money and power corrupts and this applies across the board.
Not saying anyone in council is doing a poor job. However, a fresh perspective can bring about amazing change.

Yes, it's time for term limits! Too many people do not do our civic duty and pay attention to elected government officials. It is important to have civilian control over our government. There should not be "professional politicians".
