Please save the Rental Housing Commission!!! Cutting the DC budget appropriation for the DC Rental Housing Commission means the abolishment of the Rental Housing Commission!!! This would be especially harmful to tenants because tenants will not have the benefit of interim decisions issued by the Rental Housing Commission and it would be more costly for tenants who will pay filing fees or hire attorneys because the rules and procedures at the DC Court of Appeals are much stricter. The major advantage of the Rental Housing Commission is that it only hears DC Rent Control cases, unlike other settings such as the DC Superior Court or the DC Court of Appeals where many different types of legal cases are brought before judges. Tenants are entitled to decent rental housing that is in compliance with the DC Municipal Regulations Code. If tenants' rights are violated tenants need the Rental Housing Commission to be there to hear their rental cases. Please don't cut the DC budget on the backs of tenants!!! Decent Rental Housing is a Human Right!!!
The massive surge of support proves that DC officials cannot just sweep the needs of tenants under the rug. They clearly hoped we would stay silent while they gutted our protection, but they were wrong.

DC is already way too expensive for regular people. Getting rid of this commission just makes it impossible for us to fight back against bad landlords. STOP CUTTING THIS BUDGET.

This is ridiculous. Rent control is the only thing keeping some of us in our homes. Don't balance the budget by hurting the people living here.
