With a record 76,549 people on the wait list for affordable housing in Toronto and income supports at record low levels, the City of Toronto is proposing to slash spending on shelter beds for people who are homeless. This will mean a cut of approximately 100 beds per night as well as a cut to food. The shelter system is already inadequate and unable to meet the current need. Out of the Colds are being overwhelmed. Further cuts will mean serious risk and injury for people. We the undersigned demand that no cuts to shelter be made and call on the City to stop the cuts to services
The scale of this response has secured us a meeting with the municipal budget office to discuss these proposed reductions. I am currently drafting a formal brief that details the immediate risks these cuts pose to the shelter system.

My son works at one of these shelters and says they are already turning people away every single night. Cant imagine how bad it will get if they take more beds away.

Ridiculous. Toronto is becoming unaffordable for everyone and now this? Stop the cuts now.

This is honestly heartless. People are literally freezing outside and the city wants to cut beds? shame on them.

The city has money for other things but not for basic human survival. Just sick.
