Do you really want to hurt the economy of the city? All of the bars that will be impacted are small businesses. Not a smart idea to hinder their profits if you want to hold your position. Also, what are you going to ban next? The sale of alcohol in grocery/liquor stores? Cause that is all that's going to happen. College kids will instead buy a ton of booze from large corporations and do the same thing at large house/Greek parties. It is common sense.

Prohibition ended 86 yrs ago. I always thought of Columbia as a progressive city, not one living almost a century in the past.

I hardly ever drink, and I don't go downtown very much because it is too expensive. Even I feel like this is an overstep of the local government.
