The city has officially approved the direct lease agreement for the Arlington Futbol Club. We are now shifting our focus to overseeing the transition and verifying that the maintenance improvements proceed as scheduled.

Jacksonville residents pay taxes to the city and deserve the right to have access to safe and well maintained parks and athletic facilities. The soccer fields at Ed Austin Regional Park have been neglected and have fallen into such disrepair as they have become unsafe for soccer players and the general public at large
The current lesee at the park and the city parks maintenance department have shown little interest in maintaining the fields at reasonable levels and the fields continue to deteriorate to the point that the safety of anyone using the fields is at risk.
Vandalism and graffiti at the park have become common place as the park continues to fall into disrepair. If this is allowed to continue, the park will continue to attract more crime to the area.
Ed Austin Regional Park is only one of a handful of green spaces left in the Arlington/East Arlington area... it can be a centerpiece of community involvement if it is properly maintained and further developed.
AFC (Arlington Futbol Club) is seeking a direct lease with the city in an effort to attract more development to the park to maintain and enhance the fields through the use of corporate sponsorships and soccer specific grants in aid.

The volume of support for this petition has gained the attention of several local media outlets interested in the current maintenance issues at Ed Austin Regional Park. My focus is now on preparing our formal request for a direct city lease to ensure these facility improvements proceed. I will provide an update once the first meeting with the city department is confirmed.

My child has very bad allergies and the dust/sand on the field is making it difficult to play. We left the YMCA for their poor fields and expected much better at ed austin. please help.
The City of Jacksonville should either relinquish the park to an organization that can, and will, care for it or Jacksonville should provide the care and attention the park deserves.
My daughter has played soccer at these fields for the last 4 years. Soccer means a lot to her and her team. These fields are now so unsafe with holes filled with rocks and uneven ground that a child is bound to get hurt. Please think of these children who love the sport.
In the last 5 years I have seen the fields go down in condition. You worry everytime your child plays on the field that they might hurt themselves. In fact my son broke his collar bone because of the field conditions. Something needs to be done.
I was out there last season with my granddaughter and was watching her practice soccer as it was getting dark and noticed the lack of lighting. It seems only one area had adequate lights for evening play. It's such a large, nice space I would like to see it all useable at all times of the day and evening.
Soccer is larger than you.
Something needs to be done, my son is on his second ankle injury since January.

it's embarrassing to have teams from other soccer groups come play at Ed Austin park. especially when the fields at their city owned parks are in great condition. my grandchildren play at ed Austin park, and their safety , and all the players safety is so important.
