We believe that a stay-at-home parent works the equivalent of two full time jobs. Whether you are a stay-at-home mother or father we are being punished for taking care of our own children. We receive no compensation, no holidays or time off. And we do it gladly. However the government prides itself on being family oriented and then gives no help to those families that have a stay-at-home parent. Canada is in the midst of a population implosion and we believe that one of the best ways to stop this trend is to make it financially easier for families to bear. Even if the stay-at-home parent could claim the amount of childcare from the working parent as their income the financial burden on the family would be greatly lifted. We work hard doing one of the most important jobs in the world and we receive no acknowledgment for doing it. It is said "it takes a village to raise a child". Well it's time the government became part of our village and helped raise the future of this country.
The stories you are posting in the comments prove that families across the country feel abandoned by current tax policy. I am taking these experiences directly to the offices of our local members of parliament. Send an email to your representative today to demand they recognize the economic reality of stay-at-home parenting.

The momentum we have built proves that families are tired of being ignored. Use these next few hours to text three friends and urge them to add their names to this fight. After that look up your representative and send them a direct email demanding they address these financial burdens.

Being home with the kids is the hardest work I have ever done. We definitely deserve some tax relief for staying home to raise the next generation.

Agree 100%. People act like stay at home moms just sit around all day but we are cleaning cooking and teaching all day long.

My wife gave up her career to be with our kids and it has been a huge money struggle every month. About time the govt helped us out.

FINALLY someone is actually saying this. It is a full time job with overtime and no pay. We need this break.

It costs a fortune for childcare anyway. If one parent stays home the tax system should reflect that. Simple as that.
