As parents of multiples, we face unique challenges that necessitate additional support and resources. We urge policymakers to address these challenges and prioritize the following measures to ensure that families with multiples receive the assistance they need:

1. **Increased Grant and Leave Provisions**:

- **Extra Maternity/Paternal/Parental Leave**: Parents of multiples, including those who have multiples through surrogacy, should receive an additional 4-5 weeks of maternity leave and a minimum of 1 month of paternal leave to better manage the demands of raising multiples.

- **Additional Family Responsibility Leave**: Multiples often get sick one after the other, leading to prolonged caregiving periods. Parents need sufficient time off to accommodate the needs of their children without fear of job loss or financial instability.

2. **Education and Childcare Support**:

- **Discounted School Fees**: Government schools should offer discounted rates for families with multiples to alleviate the financial burden of educating multiple children of the same age.

- **Discounted Rates for Uniform and Stationery**: Families with multiples should receive discounts on school uniforms and stationery, as the costs of these essential items are multiplied for each child.

3. **Financial and Legal Assistance**:

- **Lenient Credit Laws**: Implement lenient credit laws for parents of multiples to ensure they have access to necessary financial resources without undue strain.

- **Additional Grant Percentage**: Grant recipients who have multiples should receive an additional percentage to better support the increased expenses associated with raising multiple children.

4. **Support for Single Parents of Multiples**:

- **Physical Assistance**: Single parents of multiples should have access to physical assistance, such as a nanny, for a specified period to help manage the demands of raising multiple children alone.

**Justification**:

Parents of multiples face significantly different challenges compared to parents with multiple children of different ages. Children of the same age often have similar, if not more, needs, making it much more expensive to maintain their well-being. The financial, emotional, and physical demands on parents of multiples are substantial and require targeted support to ensure the health and prosperity of these families.

By implementing these measures, we can create a more equitable and supportive environment for parents of multiples, ensuring that they have the resources and assistance necessary to raise their children effectively.

**Call to Action**:

We urge policymakers, community leaders, and stakeholders to recognize the unique challenges faced by parents of multiples and to take immediate action to implement the proposed measures. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these families and build a stronger, more supportive community.

I spent the whole night reading through the stories you all are leaving in the comments and honestly it just reminds me why this feels like such a heavy lift but also so necessary. The logistics of just getting kids out the door felt impossible today and then I think about the school fees and the leave policies and I just feel this immense pressure to get someone in charge to actually listen to what we are dealing with. I am trying to organize some of these notes for a talk with the office of the representative because the sheer volume of these experiences is something they cannot ignore anymore.

Raising twins is extremely difficult in South Africa since you have to pay twice for everything you buy and do. Even at school, they expect you to pay the entire cost even though you have children. I believe that our government must get involved in this.
