Gas Tax Increase for Public Transportation

As private motor vehicles are one of the key sources of greenhouse gas emissions and private motor vehicles have replaced public transportation in most sectors of New York State, it is only fair that private motor vehicle use be taxed in order to subsidize and increase the use of public transportation. Recognizing the need to curb greenhouse gas emissions, and seeking viable alternatives to rising gasoline prices, we, the undersigned, would support a one cent increase in the gasoline tax to be earmarked for upgrading public transportation systems throughout the state. This petition will be brought to the attention of public officials responsible for tax policies in the state of NY by February 1st 2009. If you support our efforts, please add your signature below.
