Would love to have an off leash trail in Eugene - part of ridgeline would be great.... maybe Martin trail and then the loop to the left. I believe the loop to the left is also a bike friendly trail....could be both and leave the runners and walkers to the rest of the system

Wonderful Initiative! I think the Fox Hollow trail head system would be a great place for this. Allowing dogs off leash from like 7am-2pm Monday-Thurs would be great. The trail is less busy and really its pretty much the same group of people and dogs. The loop provides a great spot for dogs to run.

Please support this initiative! As an avid user of the Ridgeline Trail system and a dog lover I know that having designated off lead trails, times or days would benefit many members of the community...not just those who love dogs! With designated trails, days or hours we can work towards a safer more transparent trial system for all!

I would love to see some off leash hiking, although not all the time or everywhere as some people don't like hiking with off-leash dogs & some dogs don't do well off leash. Perhaps you could do a pay-to-play trial/fundraiser.

Great idea and much needed. I'd love certain days (and also perhaps hours on weekends) on the Ridgeline trail between Dillard and Fox Hollow. It's a less used section with wide trails.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I understand that some dogs are NOT under voice control and should not be off leash, but some of us have very well behaved dogs and being on a leash on trail is a trip hazard for runners and bikers.

My husband andI are adamantly opposed to this idea.....for many reasons. We are senior citizens who love the solitude of the ridgeline trail system several days a week. Dogs off leash are a threat to each other, people who arena trail bikes and hikers. Regardless of whether they are "friendly" or not, dogs are animals.
When I was recently recovering from a surgery a dog almost knocked me off the trail when owner and I stopped to say "hello"!
Who will be liable when someone is injured? And who picks up the poop of dogs OFF LEASH? Does the owner even see it happen? Some dog owners pick up poop, but leave it by the trail. It's hideous to come upon a big pile of poop with flies swarming all over it!
I'm annoyed by "owners" who speak to their dogs as if they were children, i.e., "Those people are not your family" or "you know I told you to stay by me"......Dogs need one word commands in a public setting! These people are not responsible pet owners. They are arrogant and selfish to think the law should be changed to satisfy their "need".
Does the city even remember the reason why we have a small dog park AND a large dog park? A small dog was mauled and died because a large dog attacked it.
And how can odd/even days even be monitored? That is not even practical. We certainly hope the idea of leash free dogs on the city trails never happens.

We would love an off-leash trail for our dog somewhere in the Spencer Butte area. The trails are too narrow in many places to enjoy the hike with a dog by your side.

I think certain days/hours designated as off-leash would be fair. I'm not sure what those would be though.

please look at Sandy River Delta Recreation area in the Portland area, what a success. Dog owners are tax payers and deserve better options than dog parks.

I support 1 trail devoted to this. Unfortunately, there are too many unpredictable dogs and clueless dog owners out there. Those of us who have witnessed the horror of one of our furry babies getting attacked are forever on edge around other dogs. My dog loves to hike with me but we both feel nervous when strange dogs come galloping toward us. Most large dog owners are oblivious about how scary this is for small dogs and small dog owners.
Great idea!
