I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the administration to discuss the terms of the contract non-renewal. We are currently drafting a letter that outlines the specific operational risks associated with this decision.

The administration has acknowledged the volume of this petition and requested a formal meeting to discuss these contract terms. I am currently drafting a briefing document that outlines our specific demands for the upcoming session.

Louise's services to the faculty are superb. Her works made my family's transition to Egypt much more smoothly than without them. The tours she organizes are very educational and I can use the knowledge gained directly on my job. If you take her and her services away, it will be difficult to recruit new and high caliber faculty that you hope for, especially given the political situations here. Please renew her contract. Not renewing her contract will be the worst decision you will make and will have to live with for a long time. Sincerely, Joy~
Perhaps the university can save a few bucks off its bottom line by hiring someone else (or even eliminating the position) but it will absolutely cost us a great deal more money in the longer term if faculty retention rates suffer! Across the board policies such as this are very simply "penny wise and pound foolish".
I would like to echo the sentiments expressed by others who signed this petition: for new faculty in particular, Louise is an invaluable resource.
I doubt you'll find anyone a better investment or more cost-effective employee.
We are oh-so lucky to have Louise, and I am unable to see any good in losing her, let alone any wisdom in wittingly letting her go! It’s the stuff of mystery to me. If anything, this is an invitation to remind ourselves of the positive influence that Louise has on university morale. Swamped as we often are by mere talk of “community,” this is one very real opportunity for the university to show that it does, in fact, have the interests of its community in mind. Should Louise want to continue at AUC, then let us remind ourselves how lucky we'd be to have her!

I can't believe not renewing Louise's contract is even a possibility! I am a new hire and Louise is one of only two university employees, outside of my department, that actually responded to email and returned calls while I was still in the States. Louise has been responsible for orienting me not just to campus but to life in Cairo. She is always ready to assist and has wonderful insights into local life and travel. Finally, she is the most welcoming person on campus!
