We have moved to Fairfax County because of the Japanese language immersion program. Please do not eliminate it!!

The Japanese Immersion Program and all the language programs bring significant economic benefit to Fairfax County. The cancelation of the programs will hit the county hard when the families leave the area for other educational opportunities in the region.

As a parent of children who have gone through the immersion program, and another child who I hope will go through the immersion program, as well as an educator in FCPS, I see immense value for our children of the future to experience foreign language and culture as only offered through the immersion program!

We chose to live near by Fox Mill ES because the school has Japanese Immersion Program. If you are going to cut the program, we no longer have a reason to live in Fairfax County and pay expensive house cost and tax. Please do not eliminate the Japanese immersion program.

Our family moved from West coast to Fairfax county for Japanese Immersion!! Kids have been learning Japanese language and culture from native Japanese teachers. It is very important to teach our children to be an open minded people for our future!!

We envy the language variety of this program. The earlier a foreign language is introduced on a daily basis, it is more likely the students can achieve the level of proficiency that is actually useful later in life. Knowing another language (and the process to achieve the proficiency) certainly shapes the students' outlook on life. This is an investment to produce productive adults who can work well with people with various backgrounds, which is an increasingly important skill to have for upcoming generations.

Fairfax county's language immersion program is a wonderful asset that makes our students stand out in the local, national and global marketplace. What's even better, the budget for the whole program is only $1M. This is a huge value for our tax dollars. Our language immersion program is an asset, not a luxury.

Foreign language programs, especially those of non-traditional European languages ought to be expanded, not eliminated, to preserve educational opportunities for our youths which will surely contribute to U.S. advantage globally.

JIP is part of my identity. The Japanese Immersion Program's teachers, classes, and students are where my fondest memories are from in elementary school. The program is so special, and so grounded in these specific schools. As a senior in college studying business, I can say that the case studies and information that we learn in international business courses is already too familiar to me thanks to JIP and the instilled immersion of cultural understanding brought to students at such an early age. With globalization and conscious capitalism on an exponential rise, it's more important than ever to continue offering the Japanese Immersion Program.

Japanese immersion was a great program that taught me language skills and cultural intelligence at an unusually young age. I carried these skills with me beyond grade school to pursue a degree in international relations. Having an understanding of Japanese language and culture has been a huge discriminator in obtaining internships and applying to jobs. It would be a great disappointment to see such a wonderful program come to an end.

I'm a graduate of the Japanese Immersion Program (JIP) from Fairfax. I got a great experience and life-long friends from it. I hope they continue to foster this type of education, for bilingualism is a great adaptive tool for the future.

Please keep the Japanese language immersion program in FCPS. Its very important to learn foreign language at young age and offering this special program makes FCPS very unique.
