I support funding the Maryland Veterans Museum for the final payment of their loan in the amount of $150,000.

BACKGROUND The MVM has enjoyed the support of citizens, volunteers, and members of the following organizations: Board of Education of Charles County, Charles County Commissioners, Charles County Delegation, Southern Maryland Delegation, Veterans organizations and numerous community groups. Since its founding in 2002, MVM presented a proposal to forestated entities for the purchase of 12.9532 acres of land to be added to the adjacent former Glasva Elementary School (now the MVM) to make the land and building fully viable as a museum and to support the events that evolved as the museum grew. The Delegation supported three (3) Bond Bills totaling $520,000 toward the purchase cost, closing costs and appraisals estimated to be $675,000. All was in place for state, local private donor to pay the final $150,000. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, the donor was unable to fund that commitment, this our need for these funds.

The Charles County Delegation was requested to introduce a Bond Bill during the 2021 Legislative Session. The Charles County Delegation, in a letter dated December 3, 2020 the chairperson, declined to introduce a bill, and indicated there were more important priorities.

Under normal circumstances the museum would seek a loan to pay off the balance. COVID-19 pretty much closed the museum to any major events and certainly to our normal fundraising, and local lenders want to see the same cash flow as we maintained before COVID.

The Museum would like you to show your Support to the Maryland Veterans Museum. The Charles County Commissioners, The Charles County Delegation, The State legislative Bodies and the Governor of Maryland, all need to know you support this effort. A copy of the petition will be sent to all in the approval process.

Show your Support for the entire Veteran Community. Help MVM thank them for their service

The momentum we have built proves the Charles County Delegation cannot simply ignore our veterans anymore. They claimed this museum was not a priority but the public clearly disagrees with that heartless assessment.

The Museum is an asset to the County and State in educating citizens of all ages about the history of how our great county was formed and the role the military played. The museum honors the contributions and sacrifices made by our men and women in and out of uniforms from the country's formation the present day..

This is vital as part of the healing process for military personnel and their families. This is also a visual educational opportunity for all to benefit from visiting.

I respectfully encourage our public officials fund the last payment on the mortgage at Patriot Park. The Veterans Museum holds military history that significantly benefits the citizens including Veterans and school children. Don't allow this opportunity to save a bit of history be lost.

Positive consideration and follow through is a must. The Maryland Veterans Museum provides so much history and safe keeping of memorabilia. The museum is very County oriented and welcomes all walks of life and community groups. Please support their needs. Joyce Edelen, Regent Port Tobacco Chapter NSDAR

Our museum is essential in telling our veterans stories. With out the land we can't do our fund raisers to keep our museum open.
