The Frederick County Board of Supervisors finally stopped dragging their feet and approved the full capital plan. Overcrowding is no longer an excuse for them to ignore our students. Stay alert to ensure they actually break ground because we know how these politicians like to stall once the pressure fades.

Support for the Frederick County Public Schools Capital Improvements Plan 2017-2022

We, the undersigned pledge our support for the Frederick County Public Schools Capital Improvements Plan 2017-2022. We ask the Frederick County School Board to work in conjunction with the Frederick County Board of Supervisors to immediately find a viable solution for the overcrowding which is becoming systemic to the Frederick County School System. We acknowledge that there must be a balance struck between providing modern, state of the art facilities while remaining fiscally responsible. We ask this collection of elected officials to work together to immediately address the construction of the 4th High School, construction of the 12th Elementary School and for renovations proposed for Armel Elementary School without additional administrative delay. Although we recognize that there are many services provided by the county, we believe that providing adequate educational facilities for our next generation and relieving the additional burden placed on our children by the overcrowding in the current school system is of uppermost importance.

The Board of Supervisors is stalling while our kids sit in overcrowded classrooms. We need to hit 100 signatures to force their hand and show them we are done waiting for excuses. Post this link right now because these politicians only understand pressure.

My husband and I live in Snowden Bridge and are getting ready to have our first child this summer. One of the big draws to move to this community was the promise of a future elementary school right up the street. The community is rapidly growing with young families and a school is becoming an absolute necessity ASAP.
As I stated at the last Board of Supervisors meeting, the inaction of the board is hamstringing the ability of all to come to a reasonable solution to the problems. It is incumbent on the Supervisors to work out a budget number they are comfortable with in order for the School Board to proceed with planning. Give them a budget number to work with!
Also please, please, please address the issues at Aylor Middle School. My son is a 6th grader here and the conditions are ludicrous, it won't happen during his career there but fix it for future children. Honestly the school needs to be razed and rebuilt, there is no renovation that can be done to make that a healthy learning environment.
Growth is here in Frederick thanks in part to the public schools provided in the county. I for one used that as the basis of moving my family to the area 3 years ago. We either take steps now to be proactive, or we wait and face hard decisions later.
Stonewall is antiquated, trailers are a band aid and the population in the surrounding areas has gone up and the pace is increasing. Getting ahead of the curve now won't eliminate the problems but will keep them from being total chaos.
Our schools need better teacher pay and less overcrowding. Our students deserve more
with the massive expansion in the works within our current county - we can not sit by and watch our students placed in over crowded classrooms, watch standards to fall further, and lose precious resources available to all students. If funds are the concern perhaps you should evaluate combining programs - elementary and middle school within the same school or high school and middle school togethers. Omaha Nebraska has consistently been a leader in education and they utilize the combined systems to help ensure that students are getting the best possible education, reducing the amount of extra resources (buses, land fees, equipment, facilities) but optimizing education and resources that improve the education of their students. Denying the funds for these projects will not only cause stagnation within the current schools, but also within the district - because people will not want to move here and place their children in third rare schools. As it currently stands we are closer to education in developing countries when compared to other programs within our state.

Let's find a financial sound solution to support the emerging communities in Frederick County. An investment in schools and high quality of education will draw skilled and educated people to our county and help us grow economically.
