"Please consider signing this petition to support the creation of a North Tonawanda Ethics Board. Have a voice and prove that the citizens of North Tonawanda are asking for more checks & balances in our government.

The creation of this board could help establish standards of conduct for the executive branch, ensure transparency in government through financial disclosure, and be an educational resource for community members, city employees, & elected officials."

Reaching this point has been a slow climb and I am exhausted by the pushback we keep facing. Seeing this level of interest gives me the energy to keep moving forward despite the hurdles in our way.

I'll volunteer to be a member of the board. I am an RN at Kenmore Mercy Hospital and co-chair Workload and Staffing and Nurse Practice committees. I have held various other positions that would qualify me to hold a seat on the ethics committee of North Tonawanda City Government.

My main question is why don't we already have an Ethics Board? This is standard and those understanding true governance would not oppose such a basic component of democratic governing.

How can we teach our children to have morals, ethics and to be up standing citizens even when the adults running our city don't.

The creation of an Ethics Board is not a new concept. Municipalities across the state have them. It is essential to ensure the health of local governments and to have a measure of accountability to the citizens who elect them.
