While I don't know Sam, his efforts to entertain and also fundraise for a good cause should be lauded! I might add that it also gives him a lot of practical experience in putting his haunted house together and taking it down (reuse/recycle at it's best!). I live in the neighborhood and have seen his efforts over the past couple of years and was impressed! I honestly don't know why the person who wishes to deny his permit has a problem, but we all need to look at the whole picture. And if you do that, you'll see some pretty positive things going on here. Keep the Albany haunted house alive!

I run a home haunt in souther california. I know how hard it is to get zoning laws and permits however The fact he is a teenager doing all of this for fun and to send food and money to a food bank should be grounds enough to let him do what he's doing. Please do not let an angry neighbor ruin the fun of some and the survival of others. Give him the support he needs and this could be a movement that changes many young peoples lives from going into potentially dangerous roads; gangs, drugs, etc. and turn them into something harmless and character building; hard work, life skills, teamwork.

The memories of "scary Houses" on Halloween are some of the best Memories of my Child hood. Community was the best because of our neighbors and their neighbors.

Unless the parent of the allegedly frightened child also plans to close down Spirit Halloween Stores, Spencer's Gifts, and every other commercial venture that displays Halloween decorations, some of which are truly gruesome, I have to conclude this is a personal vendetta or a mean-spirited act to interfere with a teen working for a good cause. WHY????????

I haven't had the chance to visit this haunt, but where I grew up in Florida there was a similar attraction that I think will give a relevant story. (Sorry it's a bit long.) It was run entirely in someone's house, a really incredible feat of decorating and dedication, and for most of my life I was way too scared to ever even try to go through. The last year I lived there I finally decided I had to. After hours of standing outside and watching people be chased out, someone walked over to me and asked if I was going to come through. I explained how terrified I was, and how, at 17 years old, I'd honestly never made it through a real haunted house before because I was so scared. And they said I could walk through and no one would jump out at me so I wouldn't be scared, so I tried it. The actors joked and smiled as a ghoul held my hand and walked me through, and after that I was able to go through with a small group on the normal scary setting. The following Halloween, after I moved here, I was able to go through my first professional run haunt (the Winchester House) and had a ton of fun! Now I go to haunts every year, and even have worked at some. I really believe it's all because that little neighborhood haunt took the time to help me get over my fear, in a way that only little neighborhood haunts have the ability to. There's no better way to overcome a fear than with the help of friendly, familiar ghouls. I hope I'll have a chance to visit this one this year, and I hope many other kids (and teens, or even adults) will get the chance to indulge in the adrenaline rush, and/or overcome their fears, at this haunt. Especially one that's not only just a fun Halloween activity, but one that greatly benefits an important charity!

It is sad how one person, neighbor, etc, can ruin something that is so beneficial to so many. Not just with the food collected, although this is an important reason.... Think deeper. A POSITIVE Halloween memory is made from every person that has a hand in building, acting, or experiencing this haunted house. Because, "We are a part to all whom we have met," these positive memories made will last a lifetime. And, in our society of drama and despair - it's nice to have a shining light, isn't it?

He has been doing this for years, for a GREAT cause. Please let this continue. It's just for a few days and other kids love it too, unfortunately that neighbor doesn't get it. For the cause that is sooooo needed!
