We the undersigned support the Albany haunt. We urge the Planning and Zoning Commission to vote to allow this wonderful Albany tradition to continue.

Many of you already know about Sam DuBois’ Albany Haunt. It’s a haunted house in its third year providing thrills and chills to the city of Albany while simultaneously collecting food and funds for the Alameda County Food Bank. This is a youth-driven event, spearheaded by Sam, with the support of many friends and neighbors. To-date these enterprising teens have raised the equivalent of more than 2,500 meals in food and cash donations for the Alameda County Food Bank.

This summer Sam applied for and received a city permit for this event. He has worked with the Fire Department and City of Albany personnel to assure that this is a safe and fun event. However, recently a neighbor has filed an appeal of the city’s decision that may prevent this community tradition from happening at all. A hearing is scheduled with Albany’s Zoning and Planning Commission on October 28 to evaluate the appeal and to determine whether Sam’s Haunt can go forward this year.

Here’s how you can help: 1) Sign this petition to send a message to Albany’s Zoning and Planning Commission that you support Sam’s haunt; 2) Send an email of support to the Commission [email protected], attention: Anne Hersch; and/or 3) Come to the Commission hearing on Wednesday, October 28, 7 p.m. at Albany’s City Hall council chambers.

Thanks and Happy Halloween from the Friends of Sam’s Albany Haunt!

This is a remarkable young man! When you consider many of his peers are getting into trouble, Sam is doing a valuable community service. No 15 year old should have to go through the red tape this kid is experiencing. Let him have his haunt!!!

Not only does it bother me that someone can't do what they want on their own private property for the good of the community, but the idea a charity haunted house is being viewed as a nuisance is just plain wrong. I wish you were in my neighborhood!

I fully support this haunted house. He is not hurting anyone around him. I live near a military base belive me the jets that fly over are much louder and my kids nap through that. It may not be perfect but he is not harming anyone also he is helping his community.

Children learning how to build and engineer is an essential skill we need for the future. Allowing one cantankerous neighbor prevent Sam and his friends from building the haunted house, and sharing it with other young people is a travesty.

Hi Sam and family-- Thanks for the work you do to produce the haunted house and for the cause you put the donations towards-- Hope things and the various changes talked about can work out to keep it going now and into the future!

Shout out to Sam for his creativity and willingness to go through the legal channels for a good cause. I hope this out-pour of support will help him to feel supported by the community, even if he has had to haggle with his neighbors.

Everyday is pretty much Halloween, why should we feel more scared?
