This neighbor is a jerk!

I grew up in Albany, from elementary through high school, remained local when attending UC Berkeley, and am now at Columbia University's School of Nursing looking forward to returning to my family in Albany for the holidays. I can say that Albany has always been endearing to me because of its strong sense of community and good cheer, all in support of one another's families and the enrichment of the kids' learning and growth. Sam DuBois' Albany Haunt is a wonderful example of how all of these community factor come together, where youth are not just being consumers but are proactively taking an interest and producing greater good for society. Not only do trick-or-treaters have a blast in a safe space, but countless individuals are receiving blessing through donations to the Alameda County Food Bank, and the teens simultaneously learn skills while feeling a sense of accomplishment by being other-centered. This fuels the drive to make bigger impact on society in the future. Although I understand the neighbor(s) may experience noise, it seems rather extreme to resort to litigation. To me, it feels that the resentment of this one neighbor is dampening a whole community of good spirits, intentions, and outcomes. It's very disheartening to think that the lesson our kids would learn from these developments (regardless of the outcome) is that even the best intentions for community impact can be crippled or shutdown by legal tape.

This is for a good cause and it gives the young people something to do for the good of others. It is fun for most of the neighborhood and the young people learn how to design things etc.

Spread the seasonal Halloween fun in this community and donate for a good cause? I'm all in!

Let the kid build his haunted house and help the community. Why does one a-hole get to ruin this event benefitting numerous people?

I support young children and teenagers that are passionate about bringing the community together in anyway they please. Since when did the city of Albany become a place where a child can't build and share his art? And to stop him from raising money for the less fortunate? And what about the good example he is setting for his peers?! To use his skills and passion for his love of just doing it, but also to help others, is beyond what most teens now days are willing to do. The whole attitude of the opposing neighbor sickens me. He doesn't own the whole block! Ugh

I'm so happy to see young people working with their hands and not solely in front of a screen. The AUSD doesn't provide the ROP classes, such as carpentry, that I grew up with. I love that this young man and his friends are inspiring my younger children with what is possible through creativity, persistence and manual labor. :-)

Encourage good deeds!!

Beaurocracy and sue-happy grumps need to lighten up! Let kids be kids.
