We the undersigned support the Albany haunt. We urge the Planning and Zoning Commission to vote to allow this wonderful Albany tradition to continue.

Many of you already know about Sam DuBois’ Albany Haunt. It’s a haunted house in its third year providing thrills and chills to the city of Albany while simultaneously collecting food and funds for the Alameda County Food Bank. This is a youth-driven event, spearheaded by Sam, with the support of many friends and neighbors. To-date these enterprising teens have raised the equivalent of more than 2,500 meals in food and cash donations for the Alameda County Food Bank.

This summer Sam applied for and received a city permit for this event. He has worked with the Fire Department and City of Albany personnel to assure that this is a safe and fun event. However, recently a neighbor has filed an appeal of the city’s decision that may prevent this community tradition from happening at all. A hearing is scheduled with Albany’s Zoning and Planning Commission on October 28 to evaluate the appeal and to determine whether Sam’s Haunt can go forward this year.

Here’s how you can help: 1) Sign this petition to send a message to Albany’s Zoning and Planning Commission that you support Sam’s haunt; 2) Send an email of support to the Commission ahersch@albanyca.org, attention: Anne Hersch; and/or 3) Come to the Commission hearing on Wednesday, October 28, 7 p.m. at Albany’s City Hall council chambers.

Thanks and Happy Halloween from the Friends of Sam’s Albany Haunt!
