Hi Mr Gunner,

I am writing regards to the Business Improvement Grants program and its restrictions.

I am a sole trader who works from home, I do a mobile service and I sub-contract 5 other sole traders who work from home here in the NT.

I have been running my successful business from home for the last 10 years and even though I work from home I still pay taxes and GST, so I wonder why I am now exempt from applying for the Business Improvement Grant?

I believe that any small business or sole trader working from home should be able to apply for this grant and just because I don’t have a shop front this should not be restricting us from receiving this grant. Business working from home still need the same facilities as working from a shop front.

To go one step further I believe that the Grant should not be limited to “permanently fixed to the property” but can be used anyway to improve your business, provided you engage another NT Business to do works or supply goods.

In these hard times the NT Government needs to start looking after us small business and sole traders. We should not be restricted because of our choice to work from home, as we still contribute to the economy.

So what I am asking Mr Gunner is for you to please review this grant and expand so business working from home can apply and restriction of how we can use the grant needs to be expanded so we can improve our businesses.
